Over 100 million Americans lack dental insurance and over 29 percent of adults have untreated cavities.
“Now more than ever, I know there are people out there that need our services, but have no means to afford them – whether they’re out of a job, or just don’t have dental insurance,” says Dr. Kellogg of Kellogg Dental Center .
On September 21 he intends to do something about it. After his office at 1250 Byron Road opens at 8am, Dr. Kellogg and his volunteers will provide free dental care to the first 50 patients, or however many they can service by 1 pm.
“This event is my way of giving back to the community, and being there for the people who are in need of dental work,” comments Dr. Kellogg.
“We have seen a lot of people who have lost their jobs and benefits. We want to be here to help,” says Beth Roland, one of Dr. Kellogg's employees.
This is Dr. Kellogg's fourth year hosting an event like this. Last year 100 patients were treated.
”I needed treatment; I have pain and a cavity. I didn’t have the money to do it. When they offered the dentistry for free to someone like me, I have to take advantage of it. I have two kids and my husband is laid off. I have to save my money for the kids,” one former patient reported.
“We had many people who were treated the past years who are volunteering to work this year’s event.” remarks event coordinator Sarah Tottingham.
“It feels really good to see these people smile again,” summarizes Dr. Kellogg, who can be reached at Smilmkr@sbcglobal.net or 517-618-0983
